At 22 Westfield Road, we have designed a purpose-built student accommodation development that enhances the urban fabric of Gorgie, introducing 87 studio bedrooms in a five-storey building that aligns with the neighbouring tenement blocks. By pulling the building line forward, we create a cohesive streetscape that reflects the character of Westfield Road while delivering high-quality student housing in Edinburgh.
The T-shaped form is central to our design, maximising natural light and amenity space. By drawing the rear section towards the centre of the site, we create a well-considered courtyard to the west and dedicated service areas to the east, ensuring functional yet inviting outdoor spaces for residents. Stepping the rear elevation inwards reduces overshadowing, improves daylight access, and introduces private terraces at higher levels, enhancing both comfort and usability.
Sustainability and well-being are at the heart of our approach. The development includes extensive cycle storage to encourage active travel, along with a mix of private and shared social spaces designed to foster a strong sense of community. With thoughtful landscaping and a carefully articulated roofscape, this project delivers a contemporary yet contextually sensitive addition to Westfield Road.
