As a practice we adopt a two-fold approach to value for money for our clients. Firstly, we aim to ensure our professional service is value for money by offering efficiency and knowledge combined with containment of overheads right through the design process. Secondly, we are very good at value engineering, where necessary, our scheme designs, tailoring them to meet our clients’ cost plan budgets, whilst monitoring their project aspirations and brief requirements.
The challenge in terms of designing new buildings or refurbishing existing ones is to ensure that, as well as being fit for purpose for its current use, the building has to be sustainable through its whole life cycle. An important aspect of this is the building's ability to adapt to changing requirements. The challenge for us as Designers is to ensure that the design of the building is sufficiently flexible to allow others to make use of it. We like to consider at earlier design stage whether the design can be easily adapted in the future for some other use, should the needs of the service or local community change.
In addition to analysing the cost of running a project as a value for money assessment we like to calculate how much cost, effort and time would be required to facilitate future adaptability and flexibility with our fellow Design Team consultants. At Fletcher Joseph we believe in promoting short communication chains to ensure continuity throughout a project, which is particularly important in the prompt release and co-ordination of project drawings and documents.
